Why Hypnosis Isn’t a Magic Trick (And Why That’s Good News)
When people come into my hypnosis office, they usually ask me the same question: “Are you going to snap your fingers, put me to sleep, and magically make me stop smoking?
My answer is always the same: No. Because hypnosis is not a magic trick.
I am always completely honest with my clients. If your husband, wife, or doctor is forcing you to come to my office, but you secretly still want to keep smoking, hypnosis will not work for you. You have to actually want to become a non-smoker. Hypnosis cannot force you to do something you don’t want to do. It is a tool to help you change, not a magic spell to control your mind.
The Problem with Patches
Many people try to quit by using nicotine patches instead. But if you look at official government data on Smokefree.gov’s Nicotine Replacement Therapy guides, you will see that even medical experts admit patches cannot do all the work alone.
Why do patches struggle? Because a nicotine patch only fixes your physical body. It slowly gives your body less nicotine. But it completely ignores your mind.
The patch doesn’t know that you always want a cigarette when you drive your car. It doesn’t know that you want a cigarette when you get stressed at work. The patch only treats the chemical—it does not treat the habit.
